Our industry-leading experience and specialized equipment allows us to create a restorative layer isolating contaminants while reestablishing a clean aquatic ecosystem. To isolate pollutants, we apply sand or engineered caps over contaminated sediments. With more than 1,000 acres successfully capped nationwide, we offer high production rates with rigorous quality control.
Engineered Sediment Capping Options

- Powdered activated carbon (PAC)
- Sand covers
Armoring Options
- Geocomposite mats
- Grout-filled, cast-in-place articulating block mats
- Marine mattresses
- Precast articulating block mats

We prioritize protection where it matters most. Our sand covers, engineered caps, and armament systems are designed to isolate, stabilize, and protect subaqueous sediments—all placed precisely and efficiently. Whether your site requires traditional sand capping, specialized amendments, or durable cap armoring, we deliver solutions built for lasting performance and cost-effectiveness.
Our revolutionary broadcast capping system
J.F. Brennan Company’s patented Broadcast Capping System (BCS™) has proven to maintain precise tolerances while maximizing production rates. It nearly eliminates any intermixing with residual impacted sediments by using the water column to slow down each particle so it lands lightly on the bottom.
Capping with powdered activated carbon
Our integrated Brennan On-Site System (iBOSS™) combines the BCS and Brennan’s proprietary delivery agent (BPDA) to create the only proven capping system that successfully places powdered activated carbon.
Why This Matters
- Containment of Contaminants — Reduces risk of pollutant resurgence by locking them under clean, stable layers.
- Cost Efficiency — Broadcast and PAC systems allow coverage over large areas with fewer mobilization, less material waste, and reduced labor.
- Flexibility — We adapt methods to site conditions like water depth, site access, substrate type, and environmental constraints.
- Durability — Our armoring options help ensure caps stay intact over time, resisting erosion, shifting, or disturbance.
- Regulatory Compliance — Proper cap design, thickness control, and protective measures help meet environmental standards and permit conditions.
